Images were released in a court in Kazakhstan showing the final moments of a 31-year-old astrologer who died at the hands of her husband, reveals the Daily Mail.

In the video, the man, former Minister of Economy in the Asian country, can be seen dragging his wife by her hair, kicking her and hitting her. Saltanat Nukenova would die from head trauma. The crime occurred in November last year.

The “trial of the century”, as it is dubbed by the local press, is shocking Kazakhstan. The media coverage of the case led thousands of people to sign petitions to ask for harsher sentences for domestic violence.

Kuandyk Bischimbayev risks 20 years in prison if found guilty. He initially told the court that the woman died from self-inflicted injuries.

However, the images from the video surveillance cameras contradicted the former ruler’s testimony. However, last Wednesday, the suspect confessed to assaults.

In one of the videos, the couple is seen arguing outside a restaurant, which belongs to a family member of the former minister.
Bischimbayev is seen aggressively attacking the woman and dragging her to the ground by her hair. After that he kicks his partner several times.

As the victim tried to get up, the suspect grabbed her neck and kicked her in the chin. The attacks continued beyond the reach of the cameras.

The restaurant’s video surveillance system was also able to capture the violence of the clashes. The woman is seen dragging herself away from her attacker.

“After dragging her out of the bathroom, Bishimbayev grabbed her neck and strangled her. She lost consciousness,” says the prosecutor.

The woman was found dead the next day, with head trauma.

After beating his wife, the former minister re-entered the restaurant and sat down calmly to eat a meal. Bishimbayev admitted to the court that he had called a “psychic” friend.

In March it was reported that the murder happened because Nukenova, the politician’s third wife, threatened to leave her husband. The husband’s attacks would be recurrent, as evidenced by images left by the victim’s defense in court, which show the woman covered in bruises.

The defendant argued, in a first court hearing, that his wife had died after hitting her head on a sink.

The case has been seen as a test to challenge the independence of the Kazakh judiciary from the political system. Many people fear that the man will not be charged, as was the case in a previous trial, with corruption.
