Pop diva Madonna performs this Saturday (4) on Copacabana beach. The free closing show of the “Celebration Tour” will be the only one in South America and there is no cost. At least as far as admission is concerned.

The startup OnFly carried out a survey on the variation in prices for bus tickets, plane tickets and accommodation for the city, comparing the last weekend of April, from the 26th to the 28th, with the weekend of the event, from the 3rd to the 5th. of May and the penultimate weekend of the month, from the 24th to the 26th of May.

As for plane tickets, the price variation for national tickets to Rio de Janeiro ranges from 72%, leaving from Porto Alegre, to 517%, leaving from Guarulhos. For buses, variations go up to 36%.

The hotel sector also registered an increase. The variation between the weekend before the show, from April 26th to 28th, and the day of the event, is an increase of 59%. Daily rates, which were previously R$634, now cost R$1,014. The maximum within the category reaches R$3,447. On the weekend after the show, daily rates drop again, with a minimum average starting at R$510.

Elvimar Martins Soares, research coordinator, states that the price increase exceeded the variation during Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Carnival.

The survey carried out by OnFly included budget hotels in the South Zone and the Center of Rio de Janeiro, closest to Copacabana.

In the study, luxury and midscale hotels (those with a little more comfort and refinement than budget hotels) were excluded. The values were budgeted on April 10, 2024. For the calculation, the most economical daily rates for double rooms in each of the mapped establishments were considered.
