Just over a month after debuting in China, the Honor Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design special edition hits the global market this Thursday (2). A version of the Magic 6 Pro inspired by Porsche cars, the device seeks to draw attention to its more premium construction and design with colors coming from luxury vehicles, while bringing welcome improvements in areas such as memories, cameras and screen.

The special edition of the Magic 6 begins by standing out with its design, which uses a hexagonal-shaped camera module (instead of the circle of the standard Magic 6) and a different finish on the rear glass, with an elevation strip similar to Porsche bodies.

The panel swaps the standard glass for Honor’s NanoCrystal Shield, which was already used on the phone’s screen, promising superior resistance to drops. The inspiration in cars continues with the color options — the Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design will be available in Agate Grey, a gray/lead color adopted in the sports Porsche 911 Carrera S, and Frozen Berry, a shade of pink used in the electric Porsche Taycan.

The other specifications are similar, but there are some welcome improvements that help alleviate the rather steep launch price. Starting with processing, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip was maintained, but now the memories come in a single option of 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, instead of the 16 GB/512 GB limit of the traditional model.

The screen features a 6.8-inch OLED display, featuring a 1.5K resolution of 2800 x 1280 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and PWM dimming of 4,320 Hz, providing better visual comfort at low brightness levels. On the opposite side, the maximum brightness is higher, rising from 1,600 nits to 1,800 nits, although the peak when using HDR was maintained at 5,000 nits, an extreme value for smartphones.

There is one more change to the panel: the piece employs two layers of technology called “Tandem Display” by the giant, a solution that would significantly improve the screen’s durability, by 600% according to the brand. The idea is to reduce the decrease in maximum brightness to less than 1%, even after three years of use.

The camera set is almost identical, featuring a 50 MP main lens, with variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/2.0 and optical stabilization (OIS), ultrawide with 50 MP macro function and 122° field of view, and periscope telephoto 180 MP camera with 2.5x optical zoom and OIS. The differences between the Porsche Design version are the main sensor and the focus system.

The giant used a customized version of OmniVision’s OV50K sensor, called “Super Dynamic HONOR Falcon Camera H9800”, whose improvement is in the Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitors (LOFIC) technology. Despite the complex name, LOFIC basically adopts extra capacitors in each pixel to capture more light, offering superior HDR in photos and videos, at least in theory.

Once in focus, the old laser system left the scene to give way to a LiDAR, the same type of sensor present in iPhones, using a projection of 1,200 infrared points to record the depth of the scene with greater precision, consequently improving speed and accuracy. focus quality.

We had no changes to the battery, which still contains 5,600 mAh of capacity and 80 W fast charging, as well as 66 W wireless charging and 5 W reverse charging for accessories, numbers that continue to be quite respectable, and which highlight the Magic line. 6 against competitors.

Furthermore, the device has 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port with transfer speed of 5 Gbps (500 MB/s), stereo sound with DTS:X Ultra spatial audio, infrared emitter to control TVs and other devices, optical fingerprint reader under the screen and Android 14, running under the MagicOS 8.0 interface. Unfortunately, there are no promises of updates.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design arrives in the UK first, with availability expected in the rest of Europe in the coming days. The premium appearance and more advanced features come at a very hefty price of £1,599 (~R$10,400) — 500 pounds more than the Magic 6 Pro, which retails for £1,099 (~R$7,150).

It is not yet known whether regions such as the USA will receive the device in the future, but it is almost certain that the new product will not reach Brazil given the extreme values, despite the brand’s signals about its possible debut here.
