Salesman who survived accident thanks couple who stopped to help and was run over: ‘Another opportunity to live’ | Tocantins

Sales consultant Jordan Siqueira Sousa, 19, suffered an accident in the same place where a runaway car killed Rayane Santos Gomes, in the mountainous region of Taquaruçu. She and her boyfriend had stopped to help Jordan when they were hit.

The 38-year-old driver was arrested for culpable homicide in traffic and culpable bodily injury in traffic. His name was not given and the g1 he couldn’t make contact with his defense.

According to information from the Military Police (PM) and the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the accident occurred on a winding curve on the TO-030 highway. The driver collided with the car into two motorcycles and ran over the couple who were standing on the side of the road.

To the g1, Jordan said that minutes before this fatal accident, he slipped on an object that was on the road, lost control of the motorcycle and fell into the bush, injuring his head and right arm. He managed to crawl to the side of the road and raised his left arm asking for help. Daniel and Rayane passed the stretch, saw Jordan and stopped to help.

“When he came back, I only saw a car that was very out of control, very crazy. And it hit them, passing the car over my motorcycle and falling in front of it”, says Jordan, who was not hit by the car.

Rayane Santos Gomes, aged 27, died at the scene and Daniel Barbosa Martins, aged 28, was taken to Palmas General Hospital by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in serious condition.

The State Department of Health (SES) reported that Daniel remains under the care of the unit’s multidisciplinary team.

Jordan and Daniel knew each other from social media. Shortly after being released from the hospital, he thanked his friend for stopping to help. Now he hopes for his friend’s recovery.

“Thank God I wasn’t one of those affected by the chaos. Because I’m sure the blow was so brutal that I couldn’t bear it. Daniel is alive and so he can say that he also received another opportunity to live”, he comments.

According to the SSP, forensic experts were at the scene and the case will be investigated by the Traffic Crimes Repression Police Station (DRCT – Palmas).

The driver was taken to the Palmas Prison Unit, where he remains at the disposal of the Judiciary.

Rayane’s body was recognized by family members and released from the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The wake takes place at her mother’s house in Jardim Aeroporto.
