Former Kazakh minister Kuandyk Bischimbayev tried for death of wife Saltanat Nukenova

The former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan is on trial for the murder of his wife in November last year. Kuandyk Bischimbayev confessed to the attacks after videos were revealed.

The macabre murder of Saltanat Nukenova carried out by her husband – the former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan, Kuandyk Bischimbayev – is shocking the country.

Described as the “trial of the century” by the national press, it took on a different shape, after images of the former ruler’s attacks were released in a restaurant owned by one of Bischimbayev’s relatives.

After an argument outside the establishment, Nukenova was dragged by the hair, kicked and strangled, by her husband in a restaurant. According to Correio da Manhã, the attacks continued beyond the reach of the cameras.

“After dragging her out of the bathroom, Bishimbayev grabbed her by the neck and strangled her. She lost consciousness”, said the prosecutor, quoted by the CM.

The 31-year-old astrologer was found dead, with a head traumabut only the next day, after the former minister returned to the restaurant “calmly” to eat.

The former minister had initially said that Nukenova died from self-inflicted injuries and that the trauma was due to hit head in sink. However, this Wednesday, Bischimbayev admitted to the attacks.

Images revealed by the victim’s defense in court suggest that Bishimbayev’s attacks were recurring.

Kuandyk Bischimbayev could face a sentence of 20 years in prison. Thousands of people signing petitions to ask – unlike what happens in that Asian country – heavier penalties for domestic violence.
