The Jury Court convicted Carla Fernanda Toloi Ferreira and her lover, Anderson Fabiano Pereira, of the qualified murder of the lawyer Edson Vicente da Costa, who was Carla’s husband. The crime occurred in November 2020, in Tangará da Serra (242 km from Cuiabá) and the jury was dismissed, being held in Várzea Grande, last Tuesday (30). The trial session lasted 16 hours.
As an intellectual mentor, the wife received a sentence of 25 years, 11 months and six days in prison. The shooter was sentenced to 20 years, four months and 20 days, as well as paying a 13-day fine. The two, who have been in custody since June 2021, must begin serving their sentence in a closed regime and will not be able to appeal the sentence while free.

Edson Vicente da Costa was murdered in November 2020; convicts tried to simulate robbery
According to prosecutor César Danilo Ribeiro de Novais, the two accused tried to simulate a robbery, but the murder was discovered during investigations.
“Homicides within the scope of an intimate relationship of affection, involving patrimonial ambitions, follow a pattern in planning and execution: the simulation of robbery. This is premeditated murder, the evidence of which is predominantly indicative, where the authorship is detected by a chain of evidence”, pointed out the prosecutor during the oral argument before the panel of jurors. Then he concluded: “The Jury is the Court of Reason and the queen of evidence is human logic. Intelligence is the great weapon against impunity and injustice.”
According to the report, the victim was killed in front of the house, in the Jardim Itália neighborhood, with gunshots. Afterwards, Anderson stole the motorcycle belonging to Edson. In this way, the wife and lover were accused of qualified homicide carried out for a base reason and through an appeal that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself. Anderson also responded for theft.
“The accused Carla Fernanda was married to the victim Edson Vicente da Costa (‘Edinho’), but maintained an extramarital relationship with the co-reported Anderson Fabiano. It can be seen from the records that due to passionate and financial interests (house, car, motorcycle, life insurance, pension, etc.), the accused Carla and Anderson planned the death of ‘Edinho’, so that they could be together and with the assets belonging to the victim”, narrates the complaint signed by prosecutor Rodrigo Ribeiro Domingues.
Thus, Carla and Anderson bought a firearm and on the day of the crime they set up an ambush for the victim, who was shot in the head, abdomen, back and arms.
