Accused of killing father and son is arrested and explains the reasons for the double murder

The Military Police arrested a man, identified as Sebastião Santos Araújo, better known as “Tiâozinho”, aged 69. He is accused of committing a double homicide at Fazenda Getulina, located in the district of Itupeva, municipality of Medeiros Neto. The crime occurred on the morning of Thursday, May 2, around 10 pm, where two men, father and son, were found dead with gunshot wounds on the balcony of their residence.

Coordinator Moisés Damasceno, from the 8th COORPIN in Teixeira de Freitas, reported that the crime took place in a rural area and killed a 59-year-old man and his 29-year-old son. “The bodies were discovered outside a house, where there were signs of intense struggle. A knife was found in the hand of one of the victims, Ivan, suggesting a confrontation at the scene. The investigations continue”, said the coordinator.

On the morning of this Friday, May 3, after investigations in Medeiros Neto, the police located “Tiãozinho” in an inn. He had previously sought medical attention, suffering injuries to his chest and finger on his right hand. During the police approach, “Tiãozinho” confessed to being the perpetrator of the crime and claimed self-defense. According to him, the victims arrived at his residence insulting him and armed with knives. In response, he defended himself with a shotgun and an ax, resulting in the deaths of both father and son.

Chief delegate William Pereira and his team, together with the Military Police of the 44th CIPM, carried out the investigations that led to the arrest of the suspect. After being treated for injuries at a medical center, “Tiãozinho” hid in an inn, where he was detained. Presented at the Medeiros Neto Territorial Police Station, “Tiãozinho” was charged with qualified homicide, in accordance with Article 121 of the Brazilian Penal Code.

In an interview, he confessed to being responsible for the incident, said that he was actually the one who lived in that house, where the victims were found dead, and claimed to have acted in self-defense. “I was at home, the two arrived at the scene, swearing, disrespecting me, armed with knives, and I ran into the house and closed the door and the window, that’s when Ivan arrived and hit me”, explained the accused.

According to the accused, even though he was injured, he grabbed a BB gun and fired. “The two still injured continued to come towards me, at which point I grabbed another rifle and fired”, said “Tiãozinho”. The accused also said he used an ax against the victims.

Tiãozinho remains in custody at the Territorial Police Station of the Civil Police of Teixeira de Freitas Freitas, at the disposal of the Court.
