Lucas developed the original trilogy between the late 70s and the 80s, where he featured Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones as the main stars. The plot of these films followed a princess, a young man from Tatooine and a smuggler as they try to steal the plans for a weapon that can destroy the Rebels and prevent this from happening, defeating the Empire and its main defender, Darth Vader.

At the beginning of the millennium we returned to the Star Wars universe with three more films, which would become prequels to the original trilogy. These feature films told the story of how the Empire came to power and defeated the Republic, as well as the rise of Darth Vader. The big stars of this trilogy were Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen.

With the arrival of the second decade of the new millennium, George Lucas sold his production company to Disney and this led to the arrival of a new Star Wars trilogy, but these were sequels to the story of the original films. The plot takes place thirty years after “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” where a group, including Han Solo, seeks Luke Skywalker to help the Resistance, led by General Leia Organa. These sequels saw the returns of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill to Star Wars. However, the cast also includes Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, and many more.

It is one of the films in this new Star Wars trilogy that is the most watched film, worldwide and in Portugal, on Disney+, celebrating the day of this epic space odyssey.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” is the most watched film on Disney’s streaming platform. The plot follows Rey’s search for Luke Skywalker to ask him for help against Kylo Ren and the First Order. Meanwhile, the Resistance tries to escape an attack by the First Order. This was the last film where we saw Carrie Fisher, as the actress had passed away in December 2016, and this film was dedicated to her memory.

In addition to the films in this saga, Disney+ has several other titles that you can watch. Such as: the animated series “O Lote Estragado” with three seasons; the “Ahsoka” series with Rosario Dawson; the recently released “Star Wars: Legends of the Empire”; “Andor”; “Obi-Wan Kenobi”; or “The Mandalorian”.
