To address the housing crisis that Luxembourg is facing, several communes have implemented affordable housing projects. While some municipalities build houses, others opt to remodel emblematic buildings. This is the case of Berdorf.
In the future, anyone wishing to live in this commune, which is in the canton of Echternach, will be able to live in an old school. Berdorf is transforming a two-story building in the village of Bollendorf-Pont where hundreds of students made childhood memories.

When the project is completed, this former school will be home to two families. “We are currently carrying out a project to transform an old school into two housing units for affordable rental in Bollendorf-Pont”, an official source from the commune explained to Contacto.
But Berdorf’s initiatives in the real estate sector don’t stop there. The commune intends to develop a “second project with six to eight housing units”, which is still in the planning phase.
A similar example followed the commune of Junglinster, which is rehabilitating the Château d’Eisenborn, classified as a national historic monument, to create 14 affordable rental homes.
