The Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) announced the donation of R$ 2 million to help the victims of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul. The announcement was made by the entity’s president, João Martins, in an interview with Brazil Urgent this Saturday (4). In the state, torrential rains have already caused at least 55 deaths and affected more than 300 cities.

“The CNA could not remain insensitive to this situation that Rio Grande do Sul is going through. In Brazil, nothing like this has ever happened. We are not only making this donation, but we are making an appeal to all of agriculture in general, all agricultural entities and other entities that are not from agriculture”, said Martins.

The CNA’s concern focuses, above all, on the countryside, where small producers lost everything because of the floods.

“We understand that not only cities should be looked at, but the countryside. We have news that, in the countryside, small producers are going through very difficult situations. The CNA could not remain silent in this process. So, CNA has already donated R$2 million to help combat this catastrophe in Rio Grande do Sul”, continued the businessman.

According to the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense report, 317 cities were affected by the floods. See more numbers from the bulletin released at 6pm:

  • affected municipalities: 317
  • people in shelters: 13,324
  • homeless: 69,242
