JPP held a Mother’s Day initiative this morning in several parishes in the Region. Élvio Sousa, JPP candidate for President of the Government, who accompanied the party teams that were in Funchal, revealed one of JPP’s measures to alleviate the cost of living for Madeiran families.

“Thanks to the practice of monopolies that are protected by this Government supported by the PSD, CDS and PAN, Madeirans paid, in 2023, 3.1 million more in gas (cylinder) than the Azoreans. It’s a shame!”, said the candidate, adding that “the data is official, another 3.1 million in consumption is a lot of money for a region that is closer to the transport of goods than the Azores”.

“This situation shows that the political class is hostage to large groups that enrich themselves by increasing the cost of living for Madeirans”, he lamented.

For Élvio Sousa, “butane gas is being protected by a minority, and it is clear that it is a petroleum product that has escaped regulation and is not on the list of products subject to maximum prices in the Region, which further enhances protection which is given to a monopolistic group”, he added.

“Families and companies are paying more expensive gas, 10 euros more per bottle, a situation that increases the cost of living, sacrifices families and companies, and enriches a monopoly group. That is why our Government program is committed to regulating the price of gas, reducing the price and providing relief to families and companies”, said the JPP leader.
