Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filhoaged 24, who drove the Porsche that caused a fatal accident in the east zone from São Paulo on March 31, said he did not drink alcohol that night. To the Fantasticfrom Globo, he also said that he had no idea how fast he was traveling on the street and apologized to the family of Ornaldo da Silva Viana, victim of the collision.

On Friday, the Court of Justice ordered Fernando’s arrest, who is considered a fugitive because he was not located by the police. The interview with Fantastic was recorded before the arrest order and aired this Sunday, the 5th. Fernando’s version contrasts with the police’s conclusions, which point out, based on statements, that he had been drinking before the accident and that he was traveling above 100 km/h, in a road where the limit is 50 km/h.

On the program, the driver recalled what he did before the accident. With friends, he was at a restaurant and then went to a poker house. The accident happened after he left the scene. Asked about the speed he was traveling at, he replied: “Inside the car I didn’t have the feeling that I was traveling at such a speed.”

After the crash, he left the scene without taking a breathalyzer when his mother informed him that she was taking him to the hospital, where he was later not found by the police. “My mother stops by my house to get my health insurance card, but when I get home I feel out of control, I get very nervous about everything that was happening, then she gives me some medicine and then I black out”, he reported.

In his view, there was no privileged treatment given the police release at the scene of the accident. The Security Secretariat acknowledged that the police officers should have carried out a breathalyzer test, which was not done. “I didn’t have any privileged treatment, for me everything was normal, I was treated like anyone else”, said Fernando.

Asked if he would like to address the victim’s relatives, the driver said he had thought about the matter, but concluded that nothing would bring Ornaldo back. “The only thing would be a sincere, heartfelt apology,” he said.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Easter Sunday, March 31, in Avenida Salim Farah Maluf, in Tatuapé, east zone of São Paulo. Andrade Filho left an “open bar” party (with drinks allowed) when he was involved in the crash. He drove the Porsche that crashed at around 156 km/h into the back of app driver Ornaldo da Silva Viana’s Sandero. The limit for the road is 50 km/h.

The police officers who responded to the incident allowed the businessman to leave the scene with the help of the mother, who said she was going to take her son to the hospital. When the agents went to the hospital to take a breathalyzer test and collect their version of the accident, they found neither of them..

According to a Military Police investigation, the agents made a mistake by not taking the breathalyzer test in Andrade Filho shortly after the accident.

The driver of the luxury car, however, presented himself at the 30th Police District of Tatuapé, east of the capital, almost 40 hours after the occurrenceon April 1st – the same day that Viana was buried in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo.
