The Left Bloc begins its parliamentary days today, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, to debate and present initiatives on the housing crisis, the climate transition or the fight against corruption.

According to the program released by the party, the opening of the days is scheduled for 2:30 pm, with a press conference at the Regional Legislative Assembly to present parliamentary initiatives.

Beforehand, during the morning, a visit by deputies and the coordinator, Mariana Mortágua, to Praia Formosa is scheduled to address environmental issues and corruption.

In the afternoon, a contact action with the population in Funchal is planned and in the evening a dinner rally will be held, which will feature interventions by Mariana Mortágua and also other leaders.

On Tuesday, BE’s parliamentary days begin with “local and work meetings”, and in the afternoon the closing press conference will take place, with the presentation of initiatives by the parliamentary leader, Fabian Figueiredo.

Speaking to Lusa, the leader of the BE Parliamentary Group highlighted that these will be “joint parliamentary days”, with the deputies to the Assembly of the Republic and the elected member of the regional Legislative Assembly, Roberto Almada.

This is the first time that the party holds parliamentary days in Madeira.

The blocker justified the choice of location by arguing that “in Madeira, the worst of the Portuguese right has ruled for almost 50 years, which applies the program that the Democratic Alliance wants to apply to the entire national territory”, in a criticism of the current PSD/CDS minority government. -PP, led by Luís Montenegro.

From the perspective of the bloc parliamentary leader, this right-wing governance results in “a deregulated housing market” and the “active promotion of real estate speculation”.

In this context, BE intends to present legislative initiatives to “control the price of rents, lower the price of houses and lower the cost of housing credit”.

Another topic that will be debated will be the “just climate transition”, with the blocist parliamentary group arguing that Portugal “can and should do more to combat and mitigate the effects of climate change”, bringing forward carbon neutrality targets.

BE also wants, within the scope of these conferences, to present proposals to “qualify democracy in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and throughout the national territory” and “impose more rules of transparency and combating corruption”, giving as an example the end of Potential National Interest (PIN), a commitment he made in the electoral campaign for the legislative elections.

In these parliamentary days, the blocists will also present proposals to “combat the problems surrounding insularity in the Autonomous Region of Madeira”.

Fabian Figueiredo rejected that this is a time for pre-election campaign, as the region goes to vote again on May 26th, and indicated that the blocist deputies will be focused on presenting proposals.
