Jakarta – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that there were 7.20 million unemployed people in Indonesia as of February 2024. This number is equal to the open unemployment rate (TPT) of 4.82 percent.

Acting BPS chief Amalia Adingar Vidyasanti said the number of unemployed was lower than the same period last year, which was 7.99 million. It is even lower than during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was 4.94% in February 2020.

“There will be 7.20 million unemployed in February 2024, or the equivalent of an open unemployment rate of 4.82 percent,” said Amália at a press conference on Monday, May 6, 2024.

He explained that there was a reduction in the open unemployment rate for both male and female residents. Based on incidence data, as of February 2024, the TTT for women was 4.60% and for men it was 4.96%. This figure is lower than in February 2023, where the TTT was 4.86 percent for women and 5.83 percent for men.

“There has been a steady decline in the open unemployment rate for both men and women, as well as in urban and rural areas, all of which are lower than before the pandemic or in February 2020,” he said.

He further explained that compared to February 2023, the number of workers increased in all business sectors. In this case, the three business sectors with the largest number of workers are agriculture, commerce and manufacturing.

“Last year, these three business sectors managed to absorb around 0.03 million, 0.85 million and 0.05 million workers, respectively. Last year, the business sectors that attracted the most workers were accommodation, food and beverages, followed by business and public administration. . capable of absorbing around 0.96 million, 0.85 million and 0.76 million workers respectively,” he said.
