UA courageous firefighter from New York, in the United States, performed a heroic rescue during a road accident in Brooklyn, in the early hours of Saturday, while he was off duty.
According to ABC 7 New York, authorities received a call about a two-vehicle collision, reporting that a person was trapped in a burning car.
Shortly afterwards, before emergency crews arrived, Lieutenant Rich Cannon of the New York City Fire Department was driving by when he saw the accident and noticed one of the cars starting to catch fire. Although he found himself out of commission, he decided to take action.
The ‘courageous’ person pulled over her vehicle, got out and removed the person from the car before it completely caught fire, ending up saving them.
“As I was approaching the Bay Parkway exit, I noticed a cloud of smoke right in front of me. Two cars had been in an accident and one was on fire. I stopped and realized there was a victim in the front seat, but the door was badly damaged, so I had to go around to the passenger side. The fire continued to grow. I managed to reach out, remove the seat belt and start pulling it out. afterwards, the vehicle was completely engulfed in fire”, said the lieutenant, in a share on the social network Instagram.
Lieutenant Rich Cannon is now being honored on social media for his action and many consider him a hero. “As a first responder, it’s ingrained in me to help, whether I’m on duty or not. Whether it was a firefighter, paramedic, or off-duty police officer, I’m sure everyone would have done the same thing to help save this person’s life,” he added.
First responders transported the victim to a hospital.
