Madonna ‘calls out’ Globo and exposes the real reason for Zacarias’ death | Celebrities

Considered the Queen of Pop, singer Madonna made history by bringing together an audience of more than 1.6 million people on the beach of Copacabana last Saturday (04). The international artist caused controversy on stage, but also moved the public by paying homage to Brazilian figures who died as a result of AIDS.

The presence of actor Mauro Gonçalves, Zacarias from “Os Trapalhões”, in the tribute surprised many people. Madonna also paid tribute to sociologist Herbert José de Sousa, known as Betinho, and singers Renato Russo and Cazuza, well-known figures in the fight against the disease. On social media, many people were surprised to discover that Zacarias was also a victim of AIDS.

When singing the song “Live to Tell”, the stage screens displayed images of personalities from around the world who died as a result of the HIV virus. During Madonna’s rehearsal on Copacabana Beach for Saturday’s show, images of Zacarias were shown. “I didn’t know he passed away due to complications from AIDS,” said internet user Fátima, on social media.

Mauro Gonçalves, the eternal Zacarias, died on March 18, 1990, aged 56. At the time, the death certificate stated that the cause of death was “respiratory failure, respiratory distress syndrome and respiratory infection”. The document has a fourth reason, which was erased.

Globo interfered

When the actor passed away, there was speculation that he had become ill due to the HIV virus and that he was bisexual. His sexuality, however, was never confirmed. Behind the scenes, it is said that the comedian’s family and even Globo preferred to remain discreet and hide that Zacarias was HIV positive, since prejudice against the disease was much greater in the 1990s.

In the documentary “Trapalhadas Sem Fim”, Rafael Spaca spoke about the subject. “Mauro had a relationship with a singer, Walesca, so we started investigating the hypothesis that he was bisexual. We started talking to other people and there were a lot of people who said: ‘No, really, he had an AIDS problem and so on’. Apparently, Globo wanted to pay for treatment for him in the United States.”

“At the time, nothing was known about the disease, but what was known was more advanced there [no exterior]However, Zacarias didn’t want to… because he was a spiritist. His business was largely with medicinal plants. [Se fez]he did an alternative treatment [contra HIV]. So we asked her [ex-mulher dele]: ‘What did he die of?’. About this, she commented: ‘the death certificate I have for him is from cancer, but the people who worked close to him say it was AIDS’”, reported Rafael Spaca.
