Apple is expected to announce new iPads today for the first time in 18 months. According to “Bloomberg”, the creator of the iPhone and Macs will also launch new accessories and present its artificial intelligence chip, the M4.

The event, called “Just Imagine”, starts at 11am (Brasília time) in the USA and will be broadcast online.

According to “Bloomberg”, Apple will launch new versions of the iPad Pro, aimed at the professional market, and the iPad Air, for the general public. Tablets account for around 6% of the company’s revenue, behind iPhone (51%), services (26%), Macs (8%) and wearables, such as watches (9%).

With no iPad launches last year, sales in this segment in Apple’s last fiscal quarter reached US$5.6 billion, below the US$6.4 billion in the same period last year. With the news, the company told investors during the release of its results last week that it expects higher sales in the coming quarters of this year, which encouraged investors, boosting the company’s shares.

Screen similar to the iPhone

At this Tuesday’s event, the company’s main focus will be on the iPad Pro, which for the first time can receive the same type of screen as the iPhone, with Oled, which allows for greater brightness, better resolution and reduces the thickness of the product. It is speculated that the product will come in two sizes: 11 and 12.9 inches.

AI Chip

Rumors suggest that the iPad Pro should feature the M4 chip, with a focus on artificial intelligence. Currently, MacBooks Pro and Air have M3 family chips, which allow them to run generative AI software, as they have greater processing capacity.

Additionally, Apple is expected to announce the iPad Air in two sizes. It is speculated that, in addition to the current size of 10.9 inches, the product will gain a 12.9-inch version. In this category, it is believed that the chip to be used will be the M2.

In addition to the two tablets, the company is expected to present new features in the line of accessories. The Apple Pencil, which appears in the event invitation, may gain new functions.

According to Bloomberg, the product will include a feature that allows users to feel a small effect similar to a vibration when triggering actions with the pen. Users will likely also be able to squeeze the pencil to perform certain tasks instead of just using its tip.

The accessory was last updated in 2023, when Apple released a new lower-cost version. The new one will replace the top-of-the-line model launched in 2018.

To accompany it, Apple will also announce a new keyboard, called the Magic Keyboard, made of aluminum, with an aesthetic similar to that of a laptop. Today, Apple sells five versions of the iPad: the iPad Pro, the iPad Air, the iPad 10th Generation, the iPad 9th Generation and the iPad Mini.
