O alert for the accident was given at 8:42 am and, according to the commander of Cruz Verde de Vila Real, Vitorino Cardoso, the collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a car resulted in two serious injuries, a couple in their 70s.
Traffic was restricted in the area of the accident, at kilometer 113 of the A4, in Pópulo, municipality of Alijó, for relief operations, and, according to a GNR source contacted at around 11:30, the situation is now back to normal.
The INEM helicopter was called to the scene, but, after assessment by doctors, the victims were transported by ambulance to the hospital in Vila Real, part of the Local Health Unit of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
The incident involved firefighters from Cruz Verde and Cruz Branca, GNR and INEM, who mobilized the helicopter from Macedo de Cavaleiros and the Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance from Mirandela.
