Ukrainian Intelligence Services stop plot to assassinate Zelensky that would be a ‘prize’ for Putin’s inauguration

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced this Tuesday that it had captured Russian agents who were planning the assassination of Volodymyr Zelensky and other senior government officials. “Counterintelligence and SBU investigators thwarted the plans of the FSB (Russian security service) to eliminate the president of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leadership,” said the SBU, on the social network ‘Telegram’.

According to the SBU, two soldiers from the State Protection Department (UDO) were detained who planned the kidnapping and murder of the president and other senior government officials. “The network, whose activities were supervised by the Moscow FSB, included two colonels from the Department of State Security who handed over confidential information to the Russian Federation,” the message reads.

According to Kiev’s intelligence services, a secret agent indicated the coordinates of Zelensky’s safe house so that a missile attack could be carried out: they also indicated that Russia planned to destroy all traces of the drone used to hit the president with another missile – one of them was discovered traveling through various areas of Ukraine to receive explosives and information from her contact in Moscow.

“In addition to Volodymyr Zelensky, the enemy planned to eliminate the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, the head of the State Administration of Ukraine, Kyryll Budanov, and other high-ranking officials” whom they intended to kill before Orthodox Easter, they accused .

“The enemy was actively developing plans to eliminate President Volodymyr Zelensky. One of the tasks of the FSB intelligence network was to search among the military personnel close to the president’s protection for those who could take the Head of State hostage and subsequently kill him,” he concluded.

“The terrorist attack, which was supposed to be a gift to Putin before his inauguration, was in fact a failure of the Russian special services. But we must not forget that the enemy is strong and experienced, it cannot be underestimated”, warned Vasili Maliuk, head of the SBU.
