After the family of personal trainer Luis Felipe Alves do Nascimento, 27 years old — victim of an attempted robbery in Praia do Flamengo last Sunday morning — reported that they were not informed of the young man’s death by the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, an employee of the unit was removed. The information was confirmed by the municipal secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, who stated that an inquiry, with a deadline of 45 days, was opened to investigate the error.

In hospitals, there is a protocol in the case of a violent death that must be followed: after the death, the police station investigating the case must be notified, as well as the victim’s relatives. According to Soranz, for some reason, only the police were notified, and the body was sent to the IML.
Luis Felipe was admitted to the health unit at 6:38 am on Sunday, and died at 10 pm on the same day. His mother, Antônia Edvânia, said, however, that she left the hospital at midnight and, at home, spent the night on her knees, praying for the recovery of her son — who was already dead. She was only informed about the young man’s death on Monday morning.
— We opened an inquiry to hear the employee. If there was indeed this protocol error, we want to understand why. And if the protocol was wrong, he will be dismissed from the Department of Health and may have to answer this case personally, in court. It’s a situation that cannot happen — said Daniel Soranz.
The personal trainer, shot in the shoulder and abdomen, was admitted to the hospital in a very serious condition. Immediately taken to the operating room, he was attended to by two surgical teams (general and vascular). In total, he received 28 bags, including blood concentrates, red blood cells and volume replacement, and was taken to the ICU at 2pm on Sunday
