Google Pixel 8a is launched with AI features and a ‘cheap’ price; check the details

This Tuesday (7), Google announced the Pixel 8a, its newest cell phone cheapest in the line and which features artificial intelligence (AI) features present in the most advanced models. Although it costs less than its older brothers, the Pixel 8a also is powered by the Google Tensor G3 chipsetwhich offers plenty of performance.

The Pixel 8a also stands out for its camera, which, as usual, is among the best on the market for a cell phone in its category. By introducing AI features into the lens set, the device emerges as a strong competitor in its segment.

On the Pixel 8a, Google also follows the same update policy as the models launched in October last year. Therefore, the new cell phone hits the market with Android 14 and will have seven guaranteed operating system updates.

The Pixel 8a is a cheaper option to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, but offers several interesting AI-based features. Check out some features for capturing images:

• Best Take: allows you to take a series of photos, even in a group, and choose a different facial expression;
• MagicEditor: Allows you to move and resize objects in the scene to make the background more attractive;
• Audio Magic Eraser: Allows you to remove unwanted background sounds in recorded videos.

There are other AI features for the cameras that improve captures in different types of scenarios, including low-light environments, in addition to the skin tone optimizer.

Gemini, Google’s AI-based assistant, is also present on the Pixel 8a. With it, you can get more personalized responses and easily add images to different types of tasks to make your day-to-day life easier. You can also install extensions to extract summary information from other applications, such as emails and text editors. This is the first time that a “a” variant Pixel has received this feature.

“Circular to Search” allows you to easily search for content in apps, simply by circling, scribbling or tapping on images. “Pixel Call Assist” is a set of features to deal with calls, including unwanted ones.

Another important feature is the easy configuration to make the cell phone ready for use by a child. After that, you can use “Family Link” to manage and monitor this use.

Google Pixel 8a Features

As said, the Pixel 8a is powered by the Google Tensor G3 chipset. The device has 8 GB of RAM and has 128 GB or 256 GB of storage variants. Its OLED screen is 6.1 inches, with Full HD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 2,000 nits brightness (peak). The device weighs 188 grams and is IP67 certified against water and dust.

In terms of cameras, the device has a 64 MP main sensor and a 13 MP ultrawide sensor. The front camera has 13 MP and a wide viewing angle to fit more people in selfies. As for the battery, the company promises 24 hours of autonomy. There is 4,492 mAh of capacity with 30W charging and wireless charging.

The Pixel 8a is on pre-sale starting at US$499 (around R$2,500) on the Google Store. In Brazil, it can only be purchased via import. The device is available in four colors: aloe, bay, obsidian and porcelain; and with two types of frame: matte and aluminum.
