Queen Letizia surprised by appearing at an official event wearing white sneakers, instead of her usual high heel shoes. However, this has an explanation. Felipe VI’s wife suffered a minor accident and fractured the proximal phalanx of the central toe of her right foot.

According to sources close to the royal family, the monarch broke her toe in a domestic accident, when she hit a table while at her residence in the Zarzuela Palace, in Madrid. Now, she will be forced to wear wide, flat shoes for the next few weeks to alleviate the pain and aid recovery.

This Monday, the queen arrived at the Teatro Real, in Madrid, to attend a concert organized by the Princess of Girona Foundation and was seen limping due to the discomfort caused by the injury. “Unlucky. But it’s cured. I didn’t know what I had until I got the x-ray”Letizia told reporters after being asked about her recovery.

The Queen of Spain broke her finger “a few days ago”according to sources from the King’s House. Although last Saturday she participated with apparent normality in the oath of the flag of Felipe VI at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, where she was seen wearing flat shoes, Letizia was facing “severe pain”revealed the same sources.

At the hospital, the monarch’s finger was immobilized and they advised her to apply ice and avoid walking as much as possible. Still, Letizia did not want to postpone any commitments. The Royal Family highlighted that the period of convalescence will be extended “a few weeks”until the fractured phalanx heals, which will force the queen to continue wearing comfortable and wide shoes “even at official or gala events”the sources pointed out.
