Basic food basket prices rise in 10 Brazilian capitals in April this year | Economy | MIDDLE NORTH

In April, as the most recent National Basic Food Basket Survey, carried out by Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese)the cost of the basic food basket increased in 10 of the 17 Brazilian capitals analyzed.

WHERE WAS IT MOST EXPENSIVE: The biggest increases were recorded in the northeastern capitals, highlighting Fortaleza with an increase of 7.76%, followed by João Pessoa (5.40%), Aracaju (4.84%), Natal (4.44%), Recife (4.24%) and Salvador (3.22%). On the other hand, the biggest reductions were observed in Brasília (-2.66%), Rio de Janeiro (-1.37%) and Florianópolis (-1.22%).

MOST EXPENSIVE CITY: São Paulo led as the city with the most expensive basic food basket in the country, costing an average of R$822.24, followed by Rio de Janeiro, where the set of basic foods reached an average value of R$801.15.

LOWEST AVERAGE VALUES: In the North and Northeast regions, where the composition of the basic food basket differs, the lowest average values ​​were recorded in Aracaju (R$ 582.11), João Pessoa (R$ 614.75) and Recife (R$ 617.28).

IDEAL SALARY: Based on the cost of the basic food basket in São Paulo and considering the constitutional determination that recommends that the minimum wage should be sufficient to cover the basic expenses of a worker and his family, Dieese estimates that, in April, the ideal minimum wage should be R$6,912.69, which represents 4.90 times the value currently established in R$ 1,412.00.
