Vanderbilt baseball is reeling just before facing its two biggest rivals.

The Tennessee series looms this weekend, but first, the Commodores (32-16) will host Louisville (29-18) at Hawkins Field on Tuesday.

The Cardinals have had an up-and-down season but are coming off a weekend sweep of Boston College on the road. Vanderbilt has lost five straight SEC games against Mississippi State and Georgia.

One of the few trophy games in college baseball, Vanderbilt and Louisville play the Battle of the Barrel. The Commodores won the barrel a season ago at Louisville; the Cardinals won it in 2022 at Hawkins Field.

Louisville is the only team Vanderbilt has faced in a regional, super regional and the College World Series. They met in regionals in 2009 and 2010, super regionals in 2013 and in Omaha in 2014 and 2019.
