The Civil Police concluded investigations involving a homicide following a fight during a party in Jaboticatubas, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. A 35-year-old man, who is in prison, was charged with the crime, which occurred on March 31 of this year, in front of a bar.
The victim — a 28-year-old man — was shot in the chest. The author was arrested in the act and claimed self-defense. However, investigations showed that the suspect already carried the knife used in the crime during the party and that he and the murdered man had past disagreements, which led to an argument before the death.
All the confusion occurred in the middle of the Masked Party, which mobilized several residents of the city of Greater BH. To conclude the investigation, police officers also analyzed images from surveillance cameras and witness statements. The man was charged with qualified homicide for futile reasons.
Crime of homicide
Article 121 of the Penal Code deals with the homicide crime and its variables. Simple homicide, classified simply as “killing someone”, carries a sentence of 6 to 20 years. In the case of qualified homicide, the sentence can vary from 12 to 30 years.
