Was the umpire correct to eject Freddy Peralta?

Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the decision to eject and suspend Freddy Peralta on this week’s ‘Microbrew’ podcast

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Willy Adames to the rescue.

With two outs and two on in the ninth inning the shortstop delivered a bolt from the blue, a dramatic three-run home run off James McArthur that sparked the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

The blast was the first for Adames since May 1 and ensured Milwaukee’s losing streak wouldn’t grow to a season-high four games.

A two-out double by William Contreras started the rally and Gary Sánchez drew a five-pitch walk to set the stage for Adames, whose 392-foot blast sailed out to left field and stunned the crowd.

Trevor Megill retired the side in order to record his third save of the season while the Brewers won for the first time this season in 15 tries when trailing after eight innings.

Milwaukee’s offense finally shows some more life

A two-out infield single by Blake Perkins in the seventh and throwing error by Maikel Garcia left Perkins on second and chased starter Seth Lugo from the game. Pinch-hitter Andruw Monasterio singled in the run and Contreras followed with a single as well as putting two on.

Manager Pat Murphy called on Sánchez to pinch-hit for Tyler Black with left-hander Angel Zerpa on the mound, but Sánchez struck out and Milwaukee had to settle for a one-run deficit at 4-3.

The Royals wasted no team getting the run right back, however, as Bobby Witt Jr. greeted Thyago Vieira with a single, stole second and scored on a Vinnie Pasquantino single.

Milwaukee’s offense had one more scoring opportunity in the eighth when it got a pair of runners on, but Oliver Dunn struck out as a pinch-hitter to end the threat.

The wheels come off in the fifth

It’s often said the toughest balls for outfielders to judge are the ones hit right at them, and that’s what Sal Frelick faced when MJ Melendez sent a liner to right to open the bottom of the fifth.

Frelick misjudged it by coming in on it rather than going back and the ball sailed over his head for a triple, and as is so often the case the opposition took full advantage.

WIth one out, No. 9 hitter Kyle Isbel dropped a run-scoring single in front of Jackson Chourio in left to make it 2-1. Then with two outs Witt Jr. reached on an infield single and he and Isbel came around to score on Pasquantino’s double as Kansas City took its first lead.

Salvador Perez then followed with a double of his own, Pasquantino scored and just like that starter Colin Rea was out of the game having failed to complete at least five innings for the first time this season. He allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out two while throwing a season-low 65 pitches.

Back-to-back jacks for the Brewers

Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz slugged consecutive homers to left-center off Lugo to start the second, with Ortiz’s coming in a 1-2 count. It was the second time this season Milwaukee went deep in consecutive at-bats; Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio did it on April 20 at St. Louis.
