Work, live according to work, think about work, take it home, on vacation. Nothing more boring, from a fun point of view; not especially limiting, when you look at life in a healthy way. It was like that for a long time. Unlike many people, I like working, the responsibility, the adrenaline of a deadline to be met. I also like accumulating tasks and doing different things. I believe I fought boredom with this plurality of subjects that have always occupied me. With the pandemic, this scenario changed. Professional demands have decreased. I no longer had a workplace. A team to share headaches with. Work as freelancer, completely alone, it wasn’t easy, at least at the beginning. Today I have adapted and, I admit, I like this possibility of deciding what I want to do and how I want to do it. Managing my time is one of the great freedoms I discovered in life.
Some young people, despite the admiration and respect they show for the path and work of others, assure me that they intend to work for a living and not the other way around. They argue that life is short and that, unlike my generation, they do not need work as the only way to validate their lives. I respect the idea, I can’t help but respect it. And it forces me to exercise: would my life have been different if I had chosen to value life over work? Perhaps. Or maybe not. I think that the journey I took brought me, as a reward, this luxury of deciding to do this work to the detriment of another; that I use this time for myself and that time to solve any problem. Life demands that we have money, we already know. Age requires us to make choices and exclude things that disturb our existence. Perhaps the secret is to find balance.
