Avenida da Boavista, in Porto, which is currently under construction to accommodate the ‘metrobus’ and will maintain two lanes in each direction for cars, recorded 118 accidents that caused 139 victims in the last four years, including two deaths.
According to data from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) sent to Lusa, the most serious year was 2022, in which there were 27 accidents with victims (deaths, serious or minor injuries in the first 24 hours after the occurrence) in Avenida da Boavista, causing one death, one serious injury and 33 minor injuries.
The year 2022 was also the last before the works on the ‘metrobus’, a hydrogen bus that will connect Casa da Música to Praça do Império and Anémona running along the axis of the avenue, which will maintain two lanes in each direction, favoring space for the car and not including a cycle path in its entirety (a bidirectional route will remain between Fonte da Moura and Castelo do Queijo).
