Two workers from a company in Penafiel, working for E-Redes, died this Tuesday afternoon, when a five-ton, 18-meter-high pole fell, on which they were working on laying a new medium voltage electrical line. , in Carnicães, Trancoso. The accident also resulted in one serious injury who is hospitalized.
The men were working at the top of the pole, connecting the wires when, under still unknown circumstances, the pole broke at the base and fell. Two of the workers – a 28-year-old man of Brazilian nationality and another 52 years old, resident in Sobreira, in the municipality of Paredes – were left under the pole and could not resist the seriousness of their injuries.
“When we arrived, the victims were in cardiorespiratory arrest, two under the pole, which we were unable to reverse and were declared dead on the spot, and one that was thrown, was a few meters further away and we were able to recover vital signs”, said João Paixão, commander of the Trancoso Volunteer Fire Department.
The third worker, a 48-year-old man who was projected, was seriously injured and was transported by helicopter to Hospital da Guarda.
The Working Conditions Authority and the Guarda Judiciary Police were at the scene and are now investigating the contours of the accident.
