The prices of white crystal sugar traded in the São Paulo spot began the second official month of the 2024/25 harvest in decline.

The CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator, Icumsa color from 130 to 180, opened this week at R$ 142.70/50 kg bag, accumulating a drop of 0.6% in the first six days of May.

According to researchers from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), with almost all São Paulo mills in operation, it is observed that the largest supply for ready-delivery negotiations is lower quality sugar, with Icumsa above 200.

This product is being sold on the spot with an average discount of R$15.00 per bag in relation to the Indicator.

Cepea researchers explain that this scenario influences mills to lower prices for Icumsa crystal sugar between 150 and 180, even with availability still restricted. Furthermore, Cepea surveys indicate that demand is not showing an increase. Buyers, in general, await an increase in production and, consequently, a greater supply.
