The General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAI) archived the process that investigated the death of an elderly woman, in January, in the emergency department of the Penafiel hospital, having concluded that “all possible health care was provided” and the case was archived .

It should be noted that the clarification process had been opened by IGAS after news appeared in several media outlets about the death of an elderly woman in the emergency room of the Penafiel hospital, while she was waiting on a stretcher to be observed. It all happened on January 2nd.

On the 5th, that organization announced that a “process of clarification of the circumstances” in which the elderly woman’s death occurred had been opened.

At the time, and one day after the death, Tâmega e Sousa explained, in a press release that TRUE OLHAR had success, that the patient “was admitted to the Medical Surgical Emergency Service at 7:16 pm and was subjected to triage” three minutes later , having been awarded an orange bracelet. The death was registered “after clinical evaluation” carried out at 8:06 pm.

According to the hospital, “she was a patient at the end of her life and without clinical criteria for any invasive resuscitation maneuver”.

The unit also said that, despite the fact that, at the time, the service was under “enormous pressure”, and such circumstances could make “the operation of the service very difficult, not only due to the work overload, but due to space limitations that condition the normal functioning”, “in this particular case, the actions taken would have been the same in different circumstances”.

Now, and after an investigation process, the case has ended up closed.
