A simple photo of a meal could have been the death sentence for Landy Párraga, model, businesswoman and former Miss Ecuador 2022 contestant, shot dead on April 28. The 23-year-old girl was murdered inside a restaurant in the city of Quevedo.

Landy shared a photo on Instagram of an octopus ceviche that she ordered at the establishment. Shortly after posting the image, two armed men entered the place and shot the model three times before fleeing. Security cameras captured the moment of the crime.

The young woman was allegedly linked to Ecuadorian drug trafficker Leandro Norero, as mentioned in text messages obtained from her phone, according to The Telegraph. The conversations were found as part of Operation Metastasis, an investigation that seeks to find criminals accused of corrupting Ecuadorian state officials. Norero was murdered two years ago, in a prison in the center of the Andean Mountains.

Investigators found photos of the businesswoman on Norero’s phone, along with evidence that he had given her expensive gifts such as apartments and cars. It was also implied in his messages that he had a relationship with Párraga outside of marriage, and that he sent a message to his lawyer to say that “her name could not appear anywhere, otherwise the world would collapse”.

Párraga also had a sportswear brand and a merchandise import company, which authorities are investigating to see if it was linked to Norero.
