Wall of the Church of São Francisco de Assis is partially destroyed by car crash in O

Part of the wall Church of Saint Francis of Assisiin the Historic Center of Ouro Preto, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais, was partially destroyed after a car crash, in the early hours of this Thursday (9) (see images above).

According to the Municipal Department of Security and Traffic, there were three people in the vehicle, two were injured and were taken to the emergency unit. The driver fled.

According to Civil Police expertise, the crash destroyed 3.20 meters of the structure.

A Church of Saint Francis of Assisi is part of the city’s historical heritage, was built between 1765 and 1810 and is considered one of the main works of the sculptor and architect Aleijadinho.

The Municipality of Ouro Oreto reported that it has already requested emergency authorization to the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) to rebuild the wall.

The Civil Police said the car has the delayed documentation, which identified the driver and attempts to locate him.
