APPACDM de Moura celebrates National Day of People with Intellectual Disabilities today

Today, May 10th, for the first time in Portugal, the National Day of People with Intellectual Disabilities is celebrated. This date is dedicated to promoting and raising awareness of the inclusion and rights of people with intellectual disabilities across the country. Humanitas, an organization committed to supporting and promoting the rights of these people, will lead the celebrations of this historic day.

In Moura, APPACDM – Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Mental Disabilities also marks the important date, “an opportunity to recognize and value human diversity, promoting the inclusion and rights of people with intellectual disabilities in our community”, underlines the direction.
To raise awareness among the community about the importance of this day, the Moura association will distribute commemorative stickers on the May Fair grounds, “a symbol of solidarity and support for the cause of inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities”.

The entity remembers “that intellectual disability does not define a person; What matters are your skills, talents and potential. As members of the community, we have the power and responsibility to ensure that all people, regardless of their cognitive abilities, are valued, respected and included in all aspects of life.”
The creation of the National Day for People with Intellectual Disabilities represents a significant milestone in the journey towards valuing and respecting human diversity in Portugal. The importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all people, regardless of their cognitive abilities, is recognized.
APPACDM de Moura invites everyone to participate in the symbolic initiative of marking the date with the distribution of stickers during the May Fair, and showing support and commitment to inclusion.
