The rise in prices is the issue that most concerns Luxembourg voters, with around a month to go before the European elections, which will take place on June 9, in the Grand Duchy.

The Politmonitor survey, carried out by the Ilres polling institute for the Luxemburger Wort and the RTL, and published on Tuesday, interviewed 1,050 people registered on the electoral lists for this vote (91% Luxembourgers and 9% foreigners), with more than half (53%) pointing out inflation as one of the most worrying issues at European level.

According to Virgule, this concern is particularly shared by DP voters (64%) and young people aged between 18 and 24 (60%), and is also more present in the responses of respondents with lower education (59%) .

Right after inflation, or rising prices, issues related to climate change and security and defense appear at the top of Luxembourgers’ concerns.

Concern for the environment in second place

The climate issue, which in the previous Polimonitor barometer, on national issues, came second behind housing, now appears in second place, with 51% of responses, which could be explained by the fact that the European elections arouse more interest among environmental activists (87 %).

Among the people who are most interested in these European elections are, above all, those who vote mostly for Déi Gréng (87%), who are over 55 years old (84%) and who continued their studies beyond their bachelor’s degree (74 %).

In third place, also with 51% of responses, security and defense in Europe is another of the topics that raises the most concern among Luxembourg voters. According to Virgule, 57% of voters are in favor of delivering weapons to Ukraine, while 35% are opposed and 6% say they have no opinion. With 83% favorable opinions, the Greens are ahead of the other parties on this issue, compared to 68% for CSV, 66% for LSAP and 61% for DP.

Still with regard to security, 71% of respondents defend the creation of a common European army, with Déi Gréng voters once again leading the way in responses (84%).

The issue that concerns Luxembourg voters least at the moment, despite the large demonstrations that have taken place in neighboring countries recently, is the independence of agriculture. Only 30% express concern about this issue, with DP voters being those who most point it out (35%). Concern about immigration received 42% of the responses.

The survey was carried out between April 15 and 24 this year.
