It seems like a lie but it’s been 3 months since the beginning of the year! In the same way, the programming of Portuguese channels doesn’t stop!

It still feels like yesterday, the first day of the year, counting down the clock while eating 12 raisins for good luck. But it’s already April and 3 months have passed. As they say, time flew by.

The big winners of the 2024 Oscars are already known and now the first big potential films of the year are beginning to emerge, which will be awarded in 2025. Until the film you are looking forward to seeing premieres, the Portuguese television channels continue to show new films and timeless classics, always in favor of good cinema. So these are the great films on TV in the first week of April!

CINEMUNDO CHANNEL

THE CONJURING – THE INVOCATION (APRIL 1 AT 10:30 PM)

According to the official synopsis: “In 1971, two famous paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, are called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence on an isolated farm. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens are caught up in the scariest case of their lives.”

Starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, this horror film opened the door to one of the scariest sagas of recent years (and what’s more, it’s inspired by real events). On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes it has an impressive 86% rating. Brian Eggert, from Deep Focus Review, writes: “What’s special about ‘The Conjuring’ is the way director James Wan controls this environment. He uses the setting as a cinematic diversion, loaded with precisely timed shocks and screams.”

THE ACCOUNTANT – SETTLEMENT OF ACCOUNTS (APRIL 2nd AT 7:07 PM)

“The story of a brilliant mathematician who works as an accountant and who finds himself involved in a series of crimes”, can be read in the official synopsis.

This 2016 film has a stellar cast consisting of Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal and JK Simmons. With a budget of $44 million, this is a big movie on TV this week that you won’t want to miss.


AMC

CANDYMAN (APRIL 3rd AT 11:51 PM)

“A young artist creates an exhibition about Candyman, an evil creature who, according to legend, can be summoned in front of a mirror. Little by little, the boy’s fascination with the monster follows a trail of mysteries, blood and death”, can be read in the official synopsis.

Another horror film, within a different spectrum but which leaves anyone with goosebumps. On Rotten Tomatoes it achieved an incredible 84% rating.


HOLLYWOOD CANAL

THE GREAT GATSBY (APRIL 4TH AT 6:45AM)

“1922. In search of the American Dream, aspiring writer Nick Carraway heads to New York. He settles next to the house of the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and is thus drawn into the captivating world of the rich, their illusions, their loves and disappointments”, can be read in the official synopsis.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece was adapted into a film by the irreverent Baz Luhrmann. One of Leonardo DiCaprio’s most underrated films, where he is accompanied by Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton.

SPEED 2 – DANGER ON BOARD (APRIL 5 AT 9:35 AM)

THE BOOK OF ELI (APRIL 6 AT 5:35 PM) – ACTION

According to the official synopsis: “A lone warrior, Eli, walks through a post-apocalyptic land and tries to complete a mysterious mission. In his possession he has the last copy of a book that he guards with his life, because in it lies the only hope for the future”.

With an outstanding cast made up of Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals, Ray Stevenson and Mila Kunis, “The Book of Eli” is one of those films that will leave anyone speechless at the end of the story. Surprisingly, it only got 47% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.


THE LEGEND OF ZORRO (APRIL 7TH AT 5PM) – ACTION

“Zorro faces the challenges of a double life, on the one hand the fight against crime and on the other the fight to avoid losing the woman he loves to another man”, can be read in the official synopsis.

Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Nicholas Chinlund, Rufus Sewell and Alberto Reyes, “The Legend of Zorro” is one of those films that is an authentic guilty pleasure – we all already know the predictable story, but it’s always a pleasure to see it again. Another great movie on TV this week.
