Sporting-Estrela da Amadora is one of the games targeted

The Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC) opened two administrative proceedings against TVI because of the broadcast, on the TVI and CNN Portugal program services, of short extracts of images from sporting events on which exclusive television broadcasting rights were held. by Sport TV. These are serious offences, punishable by a fine of between 20 thousand and 150 thousand euros.

At issue are eight specific situations relating to games in the Europa League (UEFA), the Portuguese Football League and the League Cup in 2023.

At the end of last year, Sport TV had submitted two complaints to the ERC (the first on November 10th and the second on December 13th) denouncing the illegal broadcasting of images from the Roma-Servette game (program ‘Diário da Manhã’ , from TVI, on October 6); Estoril-Benfica (‘Notícias CNN’ on October 8); Liverpool-Toulouse (October 27th on the ‘Notícias CNN’ program); from Sp. Braga-Casa Pia (2 November on the ‘Notícias CNN’ program); and Desp. Chaves-Benfica (November 6, 2023 on the program ‘Rui Santos em Campo’, on CNN Portugal). They also referred to the broadcast of images from Sporting-Estrela da Amadora (November 6th on the ‘CNN Domingo’ program); of Sporting-Estrela da Amadora (6 November on ‘Notícias CNN’) and Guimarães-FC Porto (12 November on the program ‘Notícias CNN’). The ERC administrative offense process now points out that TVI broadcast images from the signal emitted by Sport TV without identifying its source.

This is not the first time that ERC has notified TVI for improper use of sports images from Sport TV. The same had already happened, for example, in August 2021.
