Israel’s representative at the Eurivision, Eden Golan, was booed during rehearsals for the second semi-final of the competition and, later, during her performance. The public heard phrases such as “Liberate Palestine”.

On Wednesday, during the dress rehearsal for the test that would define the Eurovision finals, Eden Golan was booed during about three minutes of her performance. Also the following day, during the performance, which earned him qualification for the grand final, the situation repeated itself.

Eden Golan believes Eurovision is a safe space

At the press conference that followed the semi-finals, Israel’s representative was asked whether the country’s participation in the contest could jeopardize the safety of the other competitors.

Even advised not to respond, the Eden Golan assured that Eurovision is a safe space and that the European Broadcasting Unionorganizer of the event, “is taking all necessary security measures to make this a safe and united place for everyone.”

Pro-Palestinian protests in Malmö, Sweden, where Eurovision is taking place, have been recurrent. On Thursday, thousands of people walked the streets of the city and called for Israel’s exclusion from the race due to the offensive carried out against Palestinian territory.

As for music, Israel guaranteed its presence in the final of the competition, scheduled for Saturday at 9 pm, and will compete to win the trophy with 25 other nations, including Portugal.
