In Berlin, the wife of the Russian ambassador to Germany voted in Berlin and one detail caught the attention of social media: Sergei Nechaev’s wife’s scarf. The impact was such that the Kremlin has already gone public with denying that it was an act of support for Ukraine. See the video.

More or less explicit, social networks have been highlighting curious signs that have marked the Russian presidential elections and that could show the displeasure of some factions in the country regarding the war in Ukraine.

One of these acts (if this was the intention) was actually carried out at the highest level and in one of the countries that has taken a position of strength in the face of the war implemented by Russia on Ukrainian territory.

In Berlin, the wife of the Russian ambassador to Germany voted in Berlin and a detail caught the attention of social media: the scarf of the wife of Sergei Nechaev, Russian ambassador to the country since January 2018, had blue and yellow as the predominant colors ( colors of the Ukrainian flag)

The gesture was seen as an act of support for Ukraine in this conflict with the weight of being demonstrated by someone close to one of the ambassadors with the greatest weight in the Kremlin’s foreign policy.

The impact was such on social media that the Russian Foreign Minister immediately went public to justify that the scarf not only had blue and yellow as the predominant colors but also black and white.

The international protest “Noon against Putin” invites Russian citizens, in Russia and the rest of the world, to go to their respective polling stations at 12:00 “to express a collective position against the current political situation”.

Vladimir Putin has been in power since 2000 and intends to secure a fifth presidential term, after also serving as prime minister between 2008 and 2012.

Participation in Russia’s presidential elections exceeded 74%, around six hours before the last voting centers closed, according to the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC).

At 2:15 pm (local time, minus three in Lisbon), participation was at 74.09% of the estimated 112 million voters, revealed the CEC in the most recent data presented so far.

In the 2018 elections, participation was 67.5%. The data released today includes remote electronic voting and in-person voting. According to official polls, voting intentions for Vladimir Putin are around 80%.
