Suspects of the attack in Moscow were reportedly beaten and tortured by authorities

The youngest is 19 years old and was taken to court in a wheelchair. The oldest, 32 years old, appeared with bruises on his face. One after another, the four main suspects appeared before a judge this Sunday.

The Kremlin prefers not to comment on the visible signs of beating on the body. Graphic videos are circulating on social media showing the moment in which the alleged suspects are detained and interrogated by the police. At least one of them will have been subjected to electric shocks. Another, forced to swallow part of the ear torn off during detention.

The four men who Russian authorities say are from Tajikistan are accused of terrorism, which could end in a death penalty sentence.

Friday’s attack was claimed by a branch of Daesh, but Russian authorities suggest that Ukraine intervened. This Monday, Emmanuel Macron admitted that the group that claimed responsibility for the attack is also behind failed attacks in France. He also said that Paris is available to collaborate with the investigation.

Three days later, the country is still processing the shock. This Sunday was a day of national mourning and new tributes to the victims of the biggest massacre on Russian soil in the last 20 years.
