Teachers and police unite parties, electoral clearing circle in the priorities of IL, Livre and PAN

The start of legislative sessions is usually accompanied by legislative initiatives from each party. This time, the new political cycle was marked by an impasse in the elections for the Assembly of the Republic (AR) – which was only resolved with an understanding between the PSD and the PS for a rotating presidency between the two parties that starts with José Pedro Aguiar-Branco until 2026. Even before the parties could guess the results of the first day of voting, many went ahead with the normal functioning of the day and presented their legislative priorities for the new political cycle. The Left Bloc, the PCP and the Liberal Initiative were three of these parties. Despite not having formally presented the initiatives, most of the remaining parties have also defined their first political struggles.

Among the already known proposals, Liberal and Free Initiative converge in the creation of a clearing circle for electionsbut they differ diametrically regarding the More Housing program that the liberals want to revoke.

On the left of the PS, there are several common priorities in which it is expected that meetings on the left will also contribute to a joint vote in favor. A full replacement of teachers’ service timeThe equalization of PSP and GNR risk allowance to other security forces and the recognition of the State of Palestine These are the first initiatives that unite Bloco de Esquerda and PCP – although the first two are also defended by Chega. Although they are not part of the first projects presented, it is also expected that Livre will be able to give the green light to these proposals from colleagues on the bench.

Of all the parties with parliamentary seats, only the PSD and PS have not yet come forward with any legislative initiative. They were focused on tactics.
