More than 6,000 children were removed from the Russian region of Belgorod, on the border with Ukraine, the regional governor, Viacheslav Gladkov, reported this Monday.
“We continue to send our children to other regions. There are already more than 6,000 children in almost 30 regions of the Russian Federation,” Gladkov wrote on Telegram.
Authorities in Belgorod, who put the number of deaths in the region due to Ukrainian attacks since March 12 at more than 25, announced plans to evacuate around 9,000 children to safer locations.
Gladkov also reported paying compensation to farmers for damage caused by Ukrainian attacks.
“Today we transferred 400 million rubles (about 4.3 million dollars) to 35 agricultural producers, who were damaged by shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” he said on Telegram.
Russia has reported almost daily, and for several days now, the shooting down of ‘drones’ and missiles in regions bordering Ukraine, particularly in Belgorod, which has suffered several incursions by Russian volunteer militias fighting on the Ukrainian side.
