Na cell with around 50 prisoners, practicing yoga, training Muay Thai and reading. This is how Spanish Daniel Sancho, 29, has spent the last eight months, since he was arrested for murder in Thailand.

“The environment is good, they treat us well and there is no type of violence or drugs”, this is how Daniel Sancho described to EFE how he lives. During a news agency visit, Sancho revealed that he practices yoga every day and that he trains muay thai, a sport he was already a fan of, with other inmates. “Everyone plays it here, it’s the national sport”, he assumed.

A library is available to all inmates, where they can receive visitors’ books after they have been checked by staff. “I’m reading a lot, I haven’t read it in years. Since I read ‘Game of Thrones'”, he admitted.

In prison, the internet is not allowed, and inmates only have access to music through a television where only Thai channels are shown. Sancho guarantees that he usually mentally reviews the trips he has taken, the streets of the cities he knows and the music he likes.

According to the newspaper El Mundo, the Spaniard is in one of the best prisons in Thailand, as it is not overcrowded and is located in a quiet area of the tourist island, surrounded by nature.

Visits last 15 minutes and wearing a uniform of beige shirt and knee-length shorts is mandatory. Daniel Sancho remains in a hospital wing, which is intended for all inmates with a health problem or for adaptation periods granted to some foreigners.

It is recalled that the son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho was arrested in August last year and accused of having murdered, dismembered and hidden the body of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta.

Sancho met the victim on August 2nd and together they rode a motorbike. When they returned to the hotel, they had an argument after the Colombian asked him to have sex. Sancho allegedly punched his friend in the face, which left him unconscious.

The panicked man then took him to the bathroom, trying to make him regain consciousness – without success. After waiting an hour and receiving no response from Edwin Arrieta, the chef decided to begin dismembering the doctor, a process he admitted took “three hours.”

On the same day, he placed the man’s remains in black plastic bags and rented a kayak that helped him throw most of them into the sea. The rest of the body was taken to the island’s landfill, where hours later a worker would make the discovery.

Saniel Sancho was heard in November, declaring himself innocent and guaranteeing that Edwin Arrieta’s death was due to an accident. If he is convicted, the Spaniard could face life in prison or even the death penalty.
