The adoration that cats have for boxes is nothing new, but Galena, a six-year-old cat, achieved what seemed impossible. She spent six days inside one — without anyone noticing.
In early April, guardians Carrie and Matt Stevens Clark received an Amazon package at home and, after opening it, Galena decided to explore the inside of the box.
The package, which had five pairs of boots, was returned on April 10th and the cat ended up going too. In total, Galena traveled more than 1,600 kilometers from Riverside, in the US state of Utah, where he lives, to Los Angeles, California, writes the BBC.
“It was terrible. We had no idea what had happened. We put up tons of posters. We reached out to friends and family to help us find her. We looked for a week”, recalls Carrie in a email sent to Utah television channel KSL TV.
On April 17, when the couple were almost giving up the search, the owner received a call from a veterinarian informing her that, despite being dehydrated, the cat had been found alive and healthy in Los Angeles.
Galena He spent six days without eating or drinking. Furthermore, writes the BBC, it only survived because one of the slots in the box was open enough to allow oxygen to enter. The temperature inside was always mild.
The cat was discovered by Brandy, an Amazon employee, who took her to the vet to be examined and then returned to her owners if she had microchip.
“At first, I didn’t believe the vet and thought it was a joke. I couldn’t believe she was in California. Matt took the package to the post office without knowing that our beloved cat was inside,” recalled Carrie.
As soon as they found out about the cat’s whereabouts, the couple bought two plane tickets to pick it up the next day. They took the carrier, treats and blankets with the smell of the house but, according to the owner, Galena He only stopped shaking when he fell into Carrie’s lap.
