Josh Kaul’s statements were made on Wednesday night, at a meeting of authorities about the shootings that sent children fleeing from Mount Horeb secondary school and caused an hours-long closure of local schools, according to the Associated news agency Press.

A shooter who never entered the building “was neutralized” outside the school, authorities said.

“This incident took place abroad [da escola]. The individual in this case never managed to enter,” said Kaul, indicating that there were no injuries.

Authorities present at the meeting described the student as a young male, without providing age or other information about the school he attended.

Kaul declined, however, to answer questions about what happened following the police response, including whether the student fired a weapon, what type of weapon he was carrying and whether he forced entry into the school.

Authorities said several Mount Horeb officers wearing body cameras fired weapons, without specifying how many.

Police remained at the scene for hours after the incident and the students were kept locked in buildings until late afternoon before being released to reunite with their families.
