UA 9-year-old child managed to avoid the worst during the tornado that hit the US state of Oklahoma and killed at least four people last weekend. In fact, the boy’s parents, who are admitted to intensive care, have their son to thank for being alive, after his van was thrown into trees.
Wayne and Lindy Baker were traveling with their son, Branson, to Dickson, seeking refuge, when they were ‘caught’ by the tornado.
The man lost part of a finger and suffered fractures to his back, neck, sternum, ribs and arm, while the woman suffered a punctured lung and was left with her back, neck, jaw, ribs and hand. right matches.
Who knows how, Branson managed to get out of his parents’ van to look for help, having run more than a kilometer in the dark, through fallen electrical cables and rubble. Still, the boy found a neighbor and asked him for help.
“He only found his way back due to the rays that illuminated the road. He ran as fast as he could; covered a kilometer and a half in 10 minutes. It’s impressive for a child. […] The last thing I said to them was, ‘Mom, Dad, please don’t die. I’ll be back’”recalled the minor’s uncle, Johnny Baker, cited by CBS News.
Both Wayne and Lindy are independent builders, so they have no income while they are recovering.
Along those lines, the Branson baseball team hosted a game and fundraiser on Monday night. So far, the couple’s family and friends have managed to raise 10 thousand dollars (around 9,339 euros).
