Whristopher Gregor, 31 years old, appeared in court on Tuesday, accused of the death of his son Corey, who lost his life in 2021 following successive abuse.
Video surveillance images made public in the meantime show the father forcing his son to run at high speed on a treadmill, accusing the boy of being fat. The images were recorded at the Atlantic Heights Clubhouse gym.
During the images presented in court, the boy is seen falling a few times, and his father lifting him up and forcing him to continue running.
Days after this incident, according to the Daily Mail, the child’s mother – who would be sharing custody of her son – noticed some injuries on Corey and notified a social worker. On April 2 of that year, she also took her son to the doctor, where he said that his father forced him to run on the treadmill “because he was too fat”.
Corey died the next day.
That day, the boy woke up feeling nauseous, short of breath and slurring his words. His father took him to the doctor, where he ended up suffering a seizure and, despite resuscitation maneuvers, he did not survive.
The initial autopsy revealed that Corey died as a result of injuries caused by excessive force, with heart and liver contusions, inflammation and sepsis.
Gregor was arrested in July 2021 on charges of child neglect.
The man now faces a life sentence.
