Kremlin warns that use of British weapons in Russia is “direct escalation”

O The Kremlin warned this Friday that the use of British weapons against targets on Russian territory represents a “direct escalation of tension” caused by the war in Ukraine and could “constitute a danger to European security”.

At issue are statements by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Minister, David Cameron, who stated that Ukraine “has the right” to use weapons supplied by the British against targets inside Russia.

“As Russia is attacking inside Ukraine, it is perfectly understandable that Ukraine feels the need to defend itself”said the minister, quoted by the Reuters news agency, on the same day that he promised to give three billion pounds (3.5 billion euros) a year to the country invaded by Russia “as long as necessary”.

For Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, what is at stake is “direct escalation of tension surrounding the Ukrainian conflict, which could constitute a danger to European security, to the entire European security architecture”.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also considered that Cameron’s statements prove that “the West is waging a secret war against Russia at the hands of the Ukrainians.”

“This is the first time that a Western politician has so frankly acknowledged what has long been a well-known secret of most countries in the world: That the West is waging a secret war against Russia at the hands of the Ukrainians.”he said, cited by Reuters, adding that “Russia will respond if Ukraine launches attacks on Russian territory with British weapons.”

It should be noted that the war was triggered by the invasion of Ukraine, on February 24, 2022, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin to “demilitarize and denazify” the neighboring country, among other objectives.
