O The weather on Sunday, May 5th, will be marked by persistent precipitation in Minho and Douro Litoral, especially until mid-afternoon, continuing what had already been the day on SATURDAY (See FORECAST HERE), leading to excessive precipitation accumulations for the time of the year in some places in Minho

SUMMARY: Generally very cloudy skies north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain system, appearing slightly cloudy to the south of the aforementioned mountain system. Skies in general very cloudy in the North and Center, and less cloudy in the South – good open weather. In the afternoon, gradually, some open areas also appear in the North and Center – but the precipitation persists

It will therefore be a day with temperature values maximum temperature of around 15 to 22ºC in most of the territory, with lower values appearing in the North, especially in the Interior, with values generally between 12 to 15ºC – and in some places in the South region the temperature should already be approaching 25ºC, especially in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve – a much milder day
The lows will be around 10 at 16ºC in most of the territory, to be expected lowest values in the North, in the Interior, in particular (10-12ºC) and highest on the coast and Algarve (14-19ºC) – warm night, not ruling out a tropical minimum in the Algarve, locally

We predict generally weak wind in the South, from the Southwest (5-15km/h), and in the North and Center we can have moderate to strong wind, and with gusts, sometimes up to 55-60km/h in the highest and most exposed points, as well as in the northern coastal strip, especially during the afternoon
A Sea water temperatures remain at around 15ºC on the North West Coast, and 16-17ºC on the rest of the West Coast
At the Algarve the sea will have a temperature of around 17-18ºC
Sea with waves up to 1m across the West Coast
On the South Coast of the Algarve we will have waves up to 1m
UV radiation: 67 (Very High)

To illustrate this prediction we leave the temperature forecast by the ARPEGE model, with a mild day being possible, in keeping with the time of year, and the precipitation forecast (hour by hour) by the IFS-ECMWF model – persistent rain, quite different from the usual May!

WEATHER FORECAST ON SUNDAY IN THE AZORES

WEATHER FORECAST ON SUNDAY, IN MADEIRA

Summary: We expect this Sunday a generally dry day in Madeira, with good periods of sunshine. It is expected that there will be no rain, with light wind. The sea will be calm. mild weather

Skies generally slightly cloudy, with the possibility of some cloudiness in the mountainous areas of Madeira Island, where we cannot rule out the occurrence of some light showers
On the southern slopes of Madeira Island it is likely to be sunny for much of the day!
Wind generally weak to moderate, between 10 and 20km/h, from Southwest
Temperatures without much change compared to the previous day
We expect maximum temperatures of up to 21 to 23ºC and minimum temperatures between 16 to 19ºC

Sea with waves up to 1 to 1.5m overall
Sea water at around 21ºC of temperature

Both highs and lows should now start to rise

At the end of the first week of May, stability should return and maybe become more stable and warm, remaining like this for a few days – this scenario has been gaining strength, changing a few days later – monitoring

April wasn’t great at all, but it still brought us a surprise – The models were very good at predicting this change, which was driven by the final warming of the stratosphere, and temporarily “threw” us back to temperatures close to normal winter temperatures. This transition phase from Spring to Summer usually takes place around the second week of May, and this year should be no exception – in fact temperatures will rise! But summer is still far away, and this year it may appear later – so the stability and heat that may appear may be temporary.

In the Azores it is very likely that the weather will continue to be humid and rainy, with a southwesterly regime, as the anticyclone moves away towards Europe. Lots of rain at the beginning of May, so far with no clear sign for more lasting stability

In Madeira we expect humid weather, the possibility of some precipitation for a few more days… This pattern could last as long as the anticyclone does not recover, which is not expected for now.
