In statements published today in the Polish daily “Rzeczpospolita”, the minister also announced the construction of a network of ‘bunkers’ and shelters in the Polish regions bordering Belarus, as well as the reinforcement of the border fence that was erected less than a year ago. year and extends over 186 kilometers.
Kosiniak-Kamysz, 42, said that when he traveled to Ukraine, shortly after the start of the war, as part of a parliamentary delegation, he decided to prepare an “emergency backpack” with a battery-operated radio, a flashlight, matches, a first aid kit and two days’ foodas advised by the Government Security Center.
“I still have it ready and I advise Poles to do the same, because it is a good thing in case of natural disasters or unexpected events,” he said.
“It’s not about scaring anyone, but just like parents always pack a suitcase with baby clothes when they’re expecting a birth (…) we have to be prepared for any situation”, he highlighted.
The defense chief, who is also vice-president of the Polish Government, referred to the “risk and threat situation” facing the eastern and northern flanks of Europe.
The minister also pointed out the need to consider the “unification” of these two regions in the defense plans of NATO allies.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also commented on the case of a Polish judge who a few days ago requested political asylum in Belarus and whose circumstances are being investigated, considering him a traitor, stating that “if someone voluntarily goes to a country that is not exactly democracy brilliant in the world, puts himself at the service of Russians and Belarusians and gives interviews, he is acting to the detriment of the Polish State”.
